ATBA-UK '17 - Daf's story

A few weeks been the ATBA-UK held their annual UK Championships at Hereford Board and Bike Park. We were lucky enough to have two of our brand ambassadors there representing us! Here's Daf Price's account of the weekend proceedings.

It's that time again where I blab on, try to remember how to write and round up all the shenanigans from one of the best UK comps ever!

Well where do I start...

We all arrived in Hereford Board and Bike Park on the Friday. The centre is situated just outside Hereford in the most beautiful surroundings. The park is filled with all sorts, from a gnarly downhill track to a slick running slope style. Everyone was still arriving on the Friday, so many riders were out practising. In typical Trampa style we decided to chill out, set up camp and blast around on one the electric boards. They are so much fun!

Saturday morning the competition started with 'Boarder X'. I woke up pretty hungover from the night before...to much prosecco and had the intentions of just filming the racing as I have never entered a Boarder X race in my life....   things changed...

All of a sudden I found myself, Ed, Sam and Sonni all padding up and heading up the track...what the hell was happening!?!? I had one practise run down the track and it genuinely felt like I was just holding on for my life!

After everyone had a run or two, it was all back up to the top and the de brief started. Shit just got real! Race numbers were called up and the racing had begun. I was bricking it. I think I pee'd about 5 times before I was called up. Then bang, 962, I was up. I've got to say standing in the start gate waiting for the go is the most brutal few minutes ever. "Riders ready. Watch the gate" Boooom!!! Bloody hell that was awesome! I came 2rd in my first race, I was buzzing!

At first I was just saying to myself hold back and let everyone go in front. Something changed and thought f#ck it! Everyone had 4 or 5 qualifying races then it was onto knock outs.
I ended up stacking it on the last corner in my knock out race and was proper gutted! It made it better by watching Trampa team mates Sam, Ed and Sonni all killing it in the finals! Sick boys!

On Sunday the 'Downhill' event was held. Again the weather was deece and it was time to head up the track. Downhill is a timed run from top to bottom on a single man track. This was insane. The first track consisted of sharp corners and dodging trees. Maybe the track was pretty wild or the fact it was the day after a big night, but everyone seemed to be finding it challenging. A lot less riders had entered the downhill mainly from being so beat up from the Boarder X. Nevertheless again a sick day of riding!

One of my favourite categories 'Freestyle' was held on Monday. This is probably the one event everyone enjoys to watch. One jam session with everyone throwing down the best tricks and lines. It's was another banger of a day and riders were up early getting there tricks dialled. I was having a mental battle with myself all morning and couldn't decide wether to enter or not. I flipped a coin and didn't ride. (What a pussy...Mistakes were made).

The track was running fast and everyone killing it. Matt Brind, James and Ben Wanklyn all going huge! My favourite grom Josh Hale sending big 3s on the last jump. Jess and Bobbi smashing it in the ladies. My tafia boyo Mark making the jib look steezy! My bro Sonni and Adam conacher having a blast in the seniors. It genuine looked so much fun and I was just sat there kicking myself why I wasn't riding.

That's pretty much my summary of the UK Champ'. You've probably noticed I haven't really gone into much of the partying side of the weekend.... I'm just leaving it for the edit.

JT and Sonni did kiss tho... lol

A few riders which stood out for me over the weekend are...
Ed Richardson for turning up casual as, and walking away with 1st in Boarder X...
Mark Hale for being a Rhyme beater, always riding hard and partying harder...
Jess Brown for entering her first comp and coming away with 2nd!
Jolly Tom for being a top Trampa captain. Even tho you didn't ride much you always had the back pack with the boys sandwiches.

Massive thanks to..
All the crews from around the UK which make this sport happen.
Big up to Tommy D and Hereford board and bike park.
Unsunghero for all the fresh socks!
My Younger bro Ifan for coming up for the sesh.
The ATBAUK and Matt Brind for waking us all up in the morning.

Much love

Daf heads to France

Daf heads to France

Here we are sports fans! After a mad week on the road to France, I'm finally back in little Pembrokeshire sitting in my cabin. Same as the last blog I did, 3 cans down and feeling groovy!

Well where do I start. The past week has been wild. Met loads of riders from all around the world! Drank waaay to much. Didn't sleep enough! It all started on the Thursday. I had one hell of a drive in front of me to meet the boys down in Dover. I decided to stop off in Bristol to see my sister and break up the drive. I then carried on through the night and managed to find jolly and Sam half asleep in a car park. This is where it then starts to go downhill.

Once aboard the ferry. We all decided to have a pint. Forgetting it was 7am.... Once off the ferry we had a 2 hour drive to get to Compienge. Jolly was driving so me and Sam causally started drinking.

We finally made it! It was about 11 am and we stumble up to the team GB camp feeling slightly pissed! We then found out that we had missed the qualifiers as it was on the Thursday so we couldn't ride! That only meant one thing! SESH!

The weather was amazing even tho we all complained it was too hot! The park was pretty crazy. So much compacted into one area. The freestyle jumps are beyond massive! The boarder cross track is different. The start and the finish is similar to most but has a long straight section which can be quite challenging.

We pretty much just spent the day eating food. Meeting people. Selling Trampa parts and sinking cans! If I remember correctly me Sam and Tom were fast asleep by about 10pm. The next morning we felt great! We went to the shops. Got some food and of course, more beer!

Back to the park and it was boarder cross and freestyle time. Everyone was racing pretty well but the track being so different to most made things interesting. All the UK riders were on form and it was great to watch. Big respect for Matt and Leon for both taking 1st!!!

After some chill time and food it was time for the freestyle. It looked so sweet as they had it all lit up and waited for the sun to go down. I can't quiet remember the results on this but I know Matt came first again. It was now party time and in all honesty, I can't quite remember or tell you the rest! It was just wild. I just remember waking up on one of the freestyle jumps whilst I had locked Sam in the car....

I just want to say a massive thank you to Ted @ Trampa Boards for getting us there. Big thank you to Sam and Tom. Let's just work on the logistics next time! Over all it was truly a magical weekend. It's made me really want to enter next year knowing what it's like. It was sweet to meet so many people who ride from all over the world. The Mountainboard world is epic!

We planned on making a vlog about the whole weekend. We filmed loads. Sadly our camera was stolen but in some ways maybe the footage was never to be seen!

Until next time. Mistakes Were Made. Things Need To Change

Filming in Progress

Here's the latest instalment from Daf's VLOG - Filming in Progress

More off-road wheelie board lifestyle crap!

Daf goes Slalom!

Last week Daf Price headed to Caerphilly to ride, dig and hang out with the guys over at Van Road Trails. Travelling from Pembrokeshire Daf couldn't wait to see how his board went through the Dual Slalom track. Here's a couple of clips of how it went!

"Best day ever! Best track I've ridden. So much fun. Made a load of new friends and filmed a load of youtubies. Look forward to heading back!!!"

Daf at the Dutch Open

After a few days I've finally recovered from the mad trip to Holland! So sat here now just chilling in my cabin. 3 beers in I decided to try and put down what happened whilst we was away. So as soon as we started it was going wrong...

In traditional Daf style I woke up late and it made everything so stressful. After 2 hours of manic driving down the M4 we picked up jolly Tom from Newport then raced down to Bristol airport. There we met Sam and Joris then only just managing to check in! For the first night we just went out for a few coffees then got an early night.

Next morning started sweet with a proper European breakfast. We then got onto a boat and then a 2 hour train journey. After a few beers we got to Groningen where we met Roger (owner of Gravity Supplies) and headed to the to the centre. A short walk into the woods in the flattest place ever we arrived.

The place is so sweet! Music blasting jumps everywhere and a really fun pump track. As soon as we got there the comp' started, so we quickly smashed a beer then padded up. First event was pump track. Everyone was killing it. Especially all the local riders. As it was more of a pump track than a boarder cross you really had to work hard to get around the track. After a few races, us boys got knocked out, so as you do we got back on the beers!

Tom and Sam were smashing out stunts on the demo ramp. Wil was filming anything and everything and i was just drunk! Then the freestyle started! The roll in is big, the jump is big and the landing is covered is scary rocks! Me Sam and Wil decided to take a seat and watch! No joke some of the sickest stunts I've ever seen. Nicky G, Dessie , Arno and Jolly all going big! Nicky won with some weird flips and spins which I don't even know the names ha!

Hot tub time! The set up was so cool! Banging bar with cheap beers, sweet BBQ and a sick home made hot tub! We drank, smoked and partied ourself out by 11pm! The next day was spent traveling to back down to Amsterdam where we spent the last 2 days. That part seems to be a bit of a blur! All in all, we had the sickest time ever with Trampa team! Thanks to Roger, Nicky, Arno and all the Dutch crew for a sick time!
